IMPF joins forces with Cisac in ‘industry first’

The Independent Music Publishers Forum (IMPF), which represents more than 50 independent publishers internationally, has joined the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (Cisac) as an associate member.

IMPF, founded in 2014, says the move marks the first time a publishers’ association has joined forces with Cisac, the global association of collection societies and performing rights organisations. The partnership, announced at Midem in Cannes today, will “better enhance relations between two key stakeholders in the music value chain”, according to an IMPF statement.

The forum also signed a memorandum of understanding with the US-based Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP).

Pierre Mossiat, chair of the board of directors of IMPF, comments: “IMPF is committed to addressing the unique challenges of independent music publishers everywhere. In this time of an ever-expanding world of digital music and streaming, it is fundamentally important that indie publishers and the thousands of songwriters worldwide that we represent are paid fairly for the use of our music.

“Enhancing alliances with likeminded organisations is a step in that direction.”
