YNW Melly leads September’s hottest new acts
Florida rapper YNW Melly was September’s hottest new artist, beating New Yorker King Princess and Australia’s Fisher to the top spot of the Radar Station’s monthly chart.
The Radar Station algorithm calculates the fastest-growing new artists by combining data across a number of online platforms, including Spotify, Facebook, Songkick and Last.fm. The Radar Station chart was previously only available in the bimonthly print edition of IQ, but will now be appearing monthly online and in the IQ Index newsletter.
Nineteen-year-old YNW Melly, who jumps from №7 last month, has nearly 2m monthly listeners on Spotify and close to 400,000 subscribers on YouTube, where his latest single, ‘Butter Pecan’, has racked up 2.6m views in three weeks. August’s ‘Murder on My Mind’, meanwhile – the song that broke the rapper in his home state – has more than 30m hits.
Still unsigned, YNW Melly is represented by 100k Management.
Brookyln-based singer-songwriter King Princess, who climbs to second on the chart, is signed to Columbia and booked (outside North America) by Lucy Dickins at ITB, while last month’s №1, Australian DJ Fisher, is repped by Cody Chapman at Paradigm (North and South America), Stuart Balfour at Poster Child (Australasia) and Coda’s Dave Blackgrove (Europe).
