Departures Live festival held in Stansted airport

The UK’s first music festival to take place in the departures lounge of an airport was held at London Stansted airport last Saturday (2 March).

London Stansted last weekend launched Departures Live, the first-ever live music showcase for travellers flying from the airport.

YouTuber and DJ Jack Maynard opened the festival, followed by London grime MC and Boy Better Know member Jammer.

Other performances came from indie rock bands the Magic Gang and Eliza and the Bear.

“The Departures Live event aimed to celebrate some of the finest local musical talent out there”

“It was incredibly exciting to see some of the UK’s best urban and rock artists such as Jammer and the Magic Gang perform at London Stansted this weekend,” comments Lois Robertson, brand and marketing manager at the airport.

“The Departures Live event aimed to celebrate some of the finest local musical talent out there and we’re delighted that many of our travellers got a first glimpse at some of their favourite acts ahead of their various appearances during this summer’s European festival season,” adds Robertson.

London airport to host music festival

London Stansted airport has announced Departures Live Lounge, the UK’s first music festival in an airport departures lounge, taking place on Saturday 2 March.

Travellers passing through Stansted airport this Saturday will have more than duty-free shopping and pre-flights drinks to while away the hours before boarding. The departure lounge will play host to the airport’s first-ever live music showcase, bringing four hours of live performances to flyers.

Afrobeat duo Lotto Boyz will open the live music showcase, followed by a live set from London grime MC Jammer. Brighton four-piece the Magic Gang and UK indie rock band Eliza and the Bear will also play, offering waiting travellers a “sneak preview of the 2019 European festival season”.
