Goldenvoice to bring live entertainment to the Queen Mary

AEG’s Goldenvoice has signed an exclusive deal with Urban Commons, the leaseholder of the RMS Queen Mary, to bring concerts and music festivals to the retired passenger ship in 2018.

The British-built Queen Mary, considered one of the world’s grandest ocean liners, made its maiden voyage in 1936, carrying Hollywood celebrities, royalty and other dignitaries across the Atlantic over its more than 30 years of service. Since its decommissioning in 1967, the liner has been docked in Long Beach, California, serving as a museum, hotel, tourist attraction and events space.

Property investment firm Urban Commons last year took over a 66-year lease on the Queen Mary, and has since announced major plans for redeveloping the ship into a US$250m entertainment destination, dubbed Queen Mary Island.

Now, Coachella/Stagecoach promoter Goldenvoice is to “expand [its] extensive festival roster” via a new partnership with Urban Commons, which it says will see “new and exciting large-scale music festivals and concerts” come to the ship from next year.

“Our goal is to create community integrated and culturally significant events, and we are up to that challenge with this partnership,” says AEG Presents/Goldenvoice’s Paul Billings.

“We are always looking to strategically expand our entertainment offerings at the Queen Mary in an effort to engage a larger audience,” adds Urban Commons director of entertainment events Dan Eisenstein, “and an exclusive partnership with Goldenvoice aligned perfectly with our vision for the future of entertainment at the ship.

“We look forward to a fruitful partnership with Goldenvoice and the opportunity to bring an expanded line-up of exciting events to the Queen Mary.”
