Shakira wraps Latam leg with 1.3m tickets sold

Shakira has wrapped the first Latin America leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour, having sold 1.3 million tickets and broken several records.

The Live Nation-produced outing comprised 25 sold-out shows across 11 stadiums in Latin America between 11 February and 14 April.

More than two million fans had registered for the Latin America leg of the tour – the 47-year-old’s first outing since the 2018 El Dorado World Tour – and nearly 700,000 tickets sold in less than two hours of going on sale.

During the tour, the superstar made history by becoming the first artist to hold seven shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City, attracting 455,000 fans to the residency.

The Barranquilla-born star also broke records in Colombia by becoming the first artist to perform in six stadiums in her native country.

Shakira will return to Mexico for 13 encore performances in the region

In addition to Mexico and Colombia, the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour visited Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Chile, generating major boosts to the local economies.

The Mexico residency reportedly generated around 5.5 billion pesos (approximately $275 million), while her two-night stand in Guadalajara had an economic impact of 900 million pesos (€42 million).

In Colombia, hotel occupancy rates soared to 95% in cities like Barranquilla, Medellín, and Bogotá.

The tour also sparked major travel activity, with a 41.5% increase in flight demand and a 47% spike in accommodation searches across platforms like Despegar. In Argentina, searches to attend the show skyrocketed by 400%.

Next month, the WME-repped act embarks on her retooled US and Canada leg, which visits cities such as Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and more, before wrapping up on 30 June in San Francisco at Oracle Park.

She’ll then return to Latin America for 13 encore performances in Mexico and two in Peru.

Shakira’s Latam leg hits one million attendee mark

One million people have attended Shakira’s record-breaking Latin American stadium tour so far, according to promoter Ocesa.

The Colombian star has completed 18 concerts on this leg of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour and still has 12 left to go – including four newly added Mexico dates in August and September.

They include an eighth show at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City on August 29, as well as dates at Corregidora Stadium in Querétaro (2 September), Akron Stadium in Guadalajara (6 September) and Cuauhtémoc Stadium in Puebla (12 September).

This brings her total number of Mexico shows up to 15 and includes a record-breaking seven-night run at GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City, which she is currently in the midst of.

With this feat, the 38-year-old surpasses shows by other international figures such as Paul McCartney, Metallica, Coldplay, and Taylor Swift.

The singer earned $32.9 million from 282,000 tickets sold in February

The Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran Tour kicked off on 11 February in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has so far visited six countries in Latin America. The Mexico City residency will be followed by one date in the Dominican Republic and more shows in Chile and Colombia.

Last month, Shakira was forced to postpone two shows: Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín, Colombia on 24 February due to safety concerns and Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru on 16 February after being hospitalised with an abdominal issue.

Despite that, the singer topped Billboard’s monthly Top Tours chart for the first time, earning $32.9 million from 282,000 tickets sold in February.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Shakira’s two-night stand in the Mexican city of Guadalajara had an economic impact of 900 million pesos (€42 million).

The WME-repped act will embark on her retooled US and Canada leg, produced by Live Nation, on 13 May. Stops include Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and more, before wrapping up on 30 June in San Francisco at Oracle Park.

Shakira shows inject M$900m into Guadalajara

Shakira’s two-night stand in the Mexican city of Guadalajara had an economic impact of 900 million pesos (€42 million), according to preliminary data.

The Colombian singer-songwriter performed to 90,000 people across the 16 and 17 March shows at Akron Stadium, on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour.

Data shows that Guadalajara surpassed 50% hotel occupancy, with more than 37,000 tourists travelling from other states to attend one of Shakira’s two shows, promoted by Ocesa.

In three days, an economic impact of approximately 900 million pesos was recorded, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transportation, and other sectors.

Shakira show postponed due to ‘safety concerns’

Shakira has been forced to postpone tonight’s show at Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín, Colombia, due to safety concerns.

Promoter Páramo Presenta said the roof of the stage installed by local production was damaged, posing a safety risk to the performers, the crew and the crowd.

“During the assembly process of the show scheduled for 24 February, the roof of the stage installed by the local production suffered damage that puts at risk the safety of the artist, her staff and, most importantly, that of the audience,” reads a statement by Páramo Presenta.

“The promoter and the artist’s team are working together and hope to reschedule the date in the future. We understand that this decision may be annoying for the public who were anxiously awaiting the show, but the most important thing is everyone’s safety.”

Shakira — who was forced to reschedule another Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour date in Lima, Peru, last weekend, when she was hospitalised with an “abdominal” condition — expressed regret regarding another unexpected concert postponement on Saturday.

“It hurts me a lot not to be able to get on stage and sing for you as much as I wanted to”

“My people from Medellín! It hurts me a lot not to be able to get on stage and sing for you as much as I wanted to,” she wrote in a post on X. “I’m sorry for the inconvenience, especially for those who have travelled. It’s out of my hands and those of my production team, but I’m sure we’ll soon find a new date to celebrate together.”

Concert promoter Páramo Presenta said Shakira’s performance would be rescheduled, adding: “Together with Shakira’s team, we are working on new concerts for Colombia in the second half of this year, news that will be celebrated by more than one city in the country.”

The Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour continues on 26 February at Estadio El Campín in Bogotá, Colombia.

Next month, the Colombian superstar will make history by becoming the first artist to have seven consecutive shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

The Mexican residency is set for 21-30 March, kicking off the North American leg which reaches the US on 13 May at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, before making stops in Montreal, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and more before wrapping up on 30 June in San Francisco at Oracle Park.

Shakira postpones Peru show after hospitalisation

Shakira has been forced to postpone a stadium concert in Lima, Peru, after being hospitalised with an abdominal issue.

The Colombian superstar was due to perform two sold-out shows at Estadio Nacional in the Peruvian capital on 16-17 February as part of her  Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore) 2025 world tour, produced by Live Nation, but called off last night’s opener.

Tonight’s second date is currently set to go ahead as planned.

“I am sorry to inform you all that [Saturday] night I had to go to the ER for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalised,” the singer told her 91 million Instagram followers. “The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform [on Sunday] evening.

“My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate”

“I am very sad to not be able to take the stage. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru. I hope to be released and well [on Monday] so I’m able to perform. My team and the promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you.”

Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran is the WME-represented singer’s first tour in seven years. Shakira sold out 18 stadium dates in jyst two hours for the run’s Latin American leg, selling more than 950,000 tickets.

This week, Shakira will return to her hometown of Barranquilla for the first time in 19 years with two performances at Estadio Metropolitano on 20-21 February. Additional sold out stops in her native Colombia are also booked for Medellin’s Atanasio Girardot Stadium (23 February) and Bogotá’s El Campín Stadium (26-27 February), prior to dates in Chile and Argentina.

She has also made history by becoming the first artist to have seven consecutive shows at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City.

2025 tours update: Sam Fender, Oasis, Charli XCX

Newcastle-born singer-songwriter Sam Fender has announced three stadium headline shows for next summer in support of his forthcoming album, People Watching.

The CAA-repped act will perform at the 75,000-capacity London Stadium on Friday 6 June, marking his first stadium show outside Newcastle and his biggest-ever headline show.

He’ll then return to the north for two hometown shows at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park on Thursday 12 and Saturday 14 June.

It’ll be the third and fourth time the North Shields-hailing musician has performed in his home city stadium, having sold out two nights back in 2023. He will overtake The Rolling Stones who have performed at St James’ Park on three previous occasions.

CMAT will support Fender at all three shows, and The War on Drugs will play on 6 and 14 June.

Next month, the 30-year-old will embark on his first UK tour since spring 2022, along with a slate of arena dates across Europe.

Oasis have announced South Korea and Japan dates for their eagerly anticipated 2025 reunion tour.

Liam and Noel Gallagher will perform at the Goyang Stadium in South Korea on 21 October, as well as two shows in Japan at the Tokyo Dome on 25 and 26 October.

Since confirming their return to the stage earlier this year, the brothers have announced stadium gigs in the UK and Ireland, followed by a string of dates in North America.

They’ll then return for two extra dates at London’s Wembley Stadium in late September, before heading to Australia for shows in Melbourne and Sydney and then playing further dates in South America.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX today announced a run of US arena dates for next April and May, following her joint headline run with Troye Sivan on the 2024 SWEAT Tour.

Produced by Live Nation, the BRAT 2025 arena tour will stop at Moody Center (Austin, TX), Target Center (Minneapolis, MN), Allstate Arena (Rosemont, IL) and Barclays Center (Brooklyn, NY) for two dates. Her UK arena tour is due to kick off next week.

Shakira has announced a seventh and final date at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City as part of her historic Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.

With this announcement, she becomes the first artist in Mexico’s history to sell out seven consecutive shows at the 65,000-capacity venue. The Colombian star has already sold over 1 million tickets in Latin America alone.

Last month, the 47-year-old upgraded from arenas to stadiums in several markets in response to “incredible fan demand and production changes”.

Rod Stewart has announced that he is done with “large-scale world tours” when his current run of dates is complete.

The music legend has a number of shows locked in for 2025, including North American tours in February/March, Las Vegas residencies in March and May/June, a European tour in April/May and another North American tour in July/August.

Now, he has confirmed that these shows will be the final major arena shows of his career in a post on social media.

“This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me, but I have no desire to retire,” he said.

“I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not…”

And finally, Childish Gambino has announced the cancellation of his Australian and New Zealand tour dates next year.

Gambino – aka Donald Glover – was due to perform in New Zealand in late January 2024 and Australia in February.

“Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expected,” he explained in a statement. “Know that I will do what I can to give you an exceptional experience when the time is right.”

The cancellation comes after Gambino in October similarly cancelled his North American, UK and European tour dates to undergo surgery for an undisclosed issue.

The tour and it’s subsequent cancellation followed the release of his new album Bando Stone and The New World, which was released earlier this year and marked the final album under his Childish Gambino moniker.

Meanwhile, Zayn has pushed back the US leg of his first ever solo tour due to the “heartbreaking loss” of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne. The intimate Stairway to the Sky outing had been due to start on Wednesday this week at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Record turnover for Spanish live music business

The tenth edition of the Spanish Association of Music Promoters (APM)’s Live Music Yearbook (Anuario de la música en vivo) has brought good news, reporting a record annual turnover of €334 million for Spain’s live music industry.

The record-breaking revenue follows five consecutive years of growth for the Spanish live music market and represents a 24% increase on 2017. The consistent growth means that the 2018 turnover is the biggest-ever recorded for the Spanish industry, superior even to figures generated before the 2008 financial crisis.

The turnover signals the recovery of the sector following a cut in cultural tax in 2017, from 21% to 10%. The Spanish government had hiked tax on cultural shows in 2012, causing serious problems for the Spanish live industry, which lost €100 million and 27.5% in revenue from ticket sales between 2012 and 2013.

According to APM, the majority of revenue was taken in July and August 2018. Major one-off stadium shows from Guns N’ Roses and Iron Maiden coincided with tours from international Latin artists Luis Miguel (8 dates), Shakira (5 dates) and Alejandro Fernández (8 dates).

The association also indicated a rise in music tourism, the importance of which has now been recognised by institutions, such as the new section dedicated to festivals at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).

The record-breaking revenue comes following five consecutive years of growth for the Spanish live music market

Bruno Mars attracted the biggest crowds, drawing 110,000 fans across two concerts in Barcelona and Madrid. Latin artists Ricky Martin and Shakira also proved popular, with Martin playing to 79,657 fans over 10 dates and Shakira performing to 71,000 over five shows.

APM announced the results of elections at its AGM in Palma de Mallorca in February. Members re-elected Albert Salmerón as president, with Tito Ramoneda as vice president and Carol Rodríguez, Maricruz Laguna and Julio Martí as board members. Patxi Miranda also joins the board.

The promoters’ association outlined its plans for the coming years, which include the modification of working regulations for musicians and the drawing up of a plan to ensure the recognition of the cultural, social and economic value of the music industry.

APM has now partnered with four main ticketing companies: El Corte Inglés, CTS Eventims’s Spanish operation entradas.com, See Tickets and Ticketmaster. The association maintains Ifema and el Palau Sant Jordi as venue partners.
