Benny Blanco: January’s hottest new act
Producer and songwriter Benny Blanco emerges as the hottest new act of January, beating melancholic singer-songwriter Sasha Sloan and Californian indie pop group Lovelytheband to the top spot.
The Radar Station algorithm calculates the fastest-growing new artists by combining data across a number of online platforms, including Spotify, Facebook, Songkick and Last.fm. Kanye West-endorsed rapper Sheck Wes was the previous hottest chart-topper; see the last chart here.
Responsible for millions of album sales worldwide, Benny Blanco has been producing and writing songs for years, creating hits for artists including Ed Sheeran, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Justin Bieber.
Blanco began his work at the age of 15, co-writing and producing Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed a Girl’ under the tutelage of record producer Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald. Working independently from 2011, Blanco wrote and produced hits such as Maroon 5’s ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’.
In July 2018, Blanco released ‘Eastside’, a collaboration with Halsey and Khalid, under his own name. The song became his first Billboard top 10 credited hit as an artist, and his 27th as a writer.

Blanco went on to release ‘I Found You’ with Calvin Harris, and other singles with big-time collaborators, before releasing his own debut album, Friends Keep Secrets, in December 2018.
Blanco is also the founder of the record labels Made Love Records and Friends Keep Secrets.
Boston native Sasha Sloan signed a publishing deal after linking her Soundcloud to a viral reddit post of her family home. Sloan released her debut ep, Sad Girl, in April 2018 and follow-up, Loser, in November. The singer-songwriter’s latest single, ‘Normal’, has over 23 million listens on Spotify.
Sloan is represented by Tom Schroeder at Coda Agency and Paradigm’s Matt Galle in North America.
Lovelytheband is comprised of fellow California-based musicians Mitchy Collins, Jordan Greenwald and Sam Price. The alt-pop band first emerged in March 2017, and topped Billboard Alternative song charts with debut single ‘Broken’. Since signing with Red Music last year, the band have played at Lollapalooza and Hangout festival.
