JPEGMAFIA cuts gig short after pepper spray attack

A JPEGMAFIA concert in Germany was brought to a premature end after several fans were injured by pepper spray.

The US rapper was performing at the 1,600-cap Huxleys Neue Welt in Berlin on Monday (20 January) as part of his Lay Down My Life Tour when the incident occurred. Six people required hospital treatment after complaining of respiratory problems.

According to German broadcaster RBB, an unknown person sprayed pepper spray inside the concert hall during the show, leading JPEGMAFIA to abruptly halt his performance three-quarters of the way through his planned set.

IQ has approached the venue for comment.

Seventeen people were injured overall, with 11 treated on site

The Berliner reports that 17 people were injured overall, with 11 treated on site. It adds that the fire service declared it a “mass casualty incident,” prompting a large-scale response.

Police are investigating the incident, which initially saw attendees evacuated to the car park for fresh air before being allowed home, but no suspects have yet been identified.

Papa Roach’s gig Huxleys Neue Welt the following night went ahead as planned. Other upcoming acts include Franz Ferdinand, Oscar and the Wolf, Loreen, Saxon, The Game and Myles Smith.
