Science!: Thomas Dolby to play concert in the cloud

Electronic music pioneer Thomas Dolby has added a new stop to his summer 2018 tour: the cloud.

Dolby – known for his ’80s solo output (most famously ‘She Blinded Me with Science’), his session work, as the creator of the ‘Grande Valse’ ringtone (aka the Nokia tune) and as a professor at Johns Hopkins University – will play a free, live-streamed show at midnight today (26/27 July) in Roland Cloud, an internet-based software suite developed by the famed synth-maker.

“Featuring just a few keyboards, a drum pad and a MacBook running synthesisers from Roland Cloud, Dolby’s rig for this live event is simple, but the output will be projected onscreen during the performance to give the audience a unique ‘under-the-hood’ perspective,” according to Roland.

All audience members will also be provided with a 30-day free trial for Roland Cloud, allowing them to try out the same synths and sounds used by Dolby in the show.

Watch the live stream above at 16.00 PDT (0.00 BST), or pre-register for the event on the Roland Facebook page.
