The Philippines is firmly on an upward trajectory with 2023 seeing global acts take the stage at Wanderland and Plus63 festivals.

Primary ticketing
The main ticketing players are SM Tickets, TicketNet, Ticketworld (owned by Ticketek), Ticket2Me, and new market entrants Pulp Tickets and Tickelo, both powered by regional B2B powerhouse Total Ticketing.

Distribution of sales
According to Stephanie Omila, global business development lead at Total Ticketing, there is a move to online purchases and digital fulfilment, but the SM Mall of Asia Arena requires attendees to collect a physical copy of their ticket before entering.

Value of market
According to Statista, revenue in the live music events market is projected to reach $84m by the end of 2024, +4% year-on-year.

Secondary ticketing
Omila equates the scalping issue plaguing the country to “organised crime.” Adding, “There is no law explicitly drafted to combat scalping, thus making it so hard to implement at the moment.”

International/domestic splits & genres
International acts make up around 25%. Given the populace’s love of karaoke, it’s no surprise that pop, K-Pop, and ballads are the most popular genres in the Philippines, with rap and R&B next in line.

Cultural analysis
There are fan groups dedicated to acts that aren’t necessarily deemed mainstream.

“The first time Laufey played in the country, it was for a small, 2,000-capacity venue that sold out quickly, then, in a few months, she’s scheduled to perform at the SM in September,” says Omila.

Taxes & charges
Ticketers charge between 10% and 12% commission (incl payment fees). Withholding tax on touring artists varies between 20% and 30%.
