National Ice Centre & Motorpoint Arena Nottingham

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week
Reporting to: Head of Marketing & Communications
Direct reports: 3 Marketing Execs, Graphic Designer

About the role

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced and talented individual to manage our Marketing & Communications function.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, you’ll be responsible for leading the team and executing a comprehensive strategy to increase ticket sales and brand awareness for the National Ice Centre and Motorpoint Arena Nottingham. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing the marketing strategy for our rapidly expanding National Merchandise business, retail outlets and newly formed National Catering brand.

You will need to communicate effectively both inside and outside the organisation and collaborate with other departments.

You will support and manage the staff in the team to deliver their objectives and develop their skills and experience.

The role will require you to successfully execute a diverse and unrelenting range of projects, from media liaison at major sporting events or creating innovative marketing campaigns for niche events, to negotiating contracts and commercial deals with partners.

The role requires someone with strong organisational skills and a positive and resilient ‘can-do’ attitude in the face of conflicting priorities and tight, often non-negotiable, deadlines.

About us

The Motorpoint Arena Nottingham is the largest entertainment venue in the East Midlands, showcasing the biggest events in music, comedy, and sport from Peter Kay to Ed Sheeran, England Netball to the World Ice Hockey Championships, with over 500,000 customers a year.

The National Ice Centre (NIC) sits within the same complex and hosts a variety of ice sports for clubs, the public, beginners and even Olympians 18 hours a day, every day, with 250,000 visitors a year.

National Merchandise has grown in 10 years to become the largest merchandise concession company in Europe, selling products in The O2, OVO Hydro, OVO Arena Wembley and the NEC Group’s two Arenas in Birmingham amongst over 30 venues. National Merchandise also designs, produces, and sells festival merchandise for over 40 festivals and sells merchandise at stadia such as Tottenham Hotspur and Croke Park as well as events ranging from the America’s Cup to Eurovision.

The Marketing & Communications Team

The team supports all areas of the business, including ice skating and arena shows but also promoting hospitality experiences, meetings & event spaces, ice sports shops and many merchandising partner venues and festivals around the UK and Ireland.

The workload is varied, and the team works in a very busy and fast-paced environment. No two days are the same, for example organising a marketing/PR trip, or launching a new restaurant/hospitality space or helping to put an Arena show on sale. The team requires organised and proactive individuals who can communicate effectively, have a positive attitude, thrive on managing multiple projects at the same time and who are able to incorporate evening and weekend working into their hectic schedule when required.

One final thought

This has the potential to be one of the most exciting roles you will ever have in your career. It is incredibly rewarding but also incredibly busy and demanding, in an often unstructured, reactive way that is simply a reality of the live entertainment industry.  There are many talented people that these pressures, demands and ways of working will not suit and we wish you well in your career elsewhere.

However, if you’re a talented person that is already excited at this fantastic opportunity in an industry that you’d love to be a part of, then we very much look forward to hearing from you.
