Launched in 2007, 229 is a multi-purpose entertainments venue which has played host many gigs, club nights, awards ceremonies, comedy and fashion events, gala dinners and weekend festivals.

229 is independent, embracing a broad stylistic approach to music. From grassroots discovery to arena level underplays, we support both emerging talent, touring bands and established artists, providing quality production, a safe and compliant environment and a highly professional and dedicated team to manage.

229 is open and inclusive with no limitations. Our diverse music and cultural programme reach a wide range of International communities based in and around London, giving the diaspora a space in which to celebrate their culture.

229’s profit goes directly back to our umbrella charity; International Students House, which supports the financial needs and well-being of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. ISH is a vibrant student centre offering accommodation, social and support services for resident and non-resident British and overseas students.

229/ISH comprises of three licensed areas including Venue 1, Venue 2 and The Thirsty Scholar Bar, all located at the Great Portland Street site and each with their own designated bar areas. 229 benefits from a Premises License enabling the provision of Regulated Entertainment and the sale of alcohol: Sun – Wed until 00.00, Thurs until 1am and Fri – Sat until 3am.

We also have additional conference meetings and events space, which we market and sell under the ISH Venues brand. 229 and ISH Venues work together to ensure profitability and that our spaces are utilised fully.

 

Job Role
We are looking to develop and grow the business and this new position will support and enhance the venue team. The role will assist the Venue Manager and Operations Manager in developing 229’s music programme, working with and building strong relationships with local and national promoters, agents, artist management and bands and booking and promoting 229’s own live music nights. The AVM will drive sales and bookings, diary management, show advancing and offer administrative support, as well as show repping and venue management.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • A love and passion for the live music/events business
  • Experience of working in the live music/entertainments industry
  • Good administrative skills and computer literate in Excel & Office
    Previous experience of show repping, booking, promoting and working with promoters, agents, bands and artists.
  • Effective leadership abilities, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and positive teamwork ethic.
  • Ability to form and maintain good working relations at all levels, both internal and external
  • Strong commitment to providing customer orientated service
  • Ability to deal with pressure and manage situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands (essential)
  • An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
  • An enthusiastic approach and willingness to work

Desirable

  • Experience in Venue Management (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ticketing partnerships and ticketing administration (desirable)
  • An understanding of bars and licensing. (desirable)
  • Personal Licensee (desirable but training will be given)
  • Understanding of H&S, risk assessment and licensing issues for events. (desirable, training will be given)
  • Interest or experience in basic sound, lighting and event production. (desirable)

 

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £26,000 – £28,000 per annum, depending on experience
  • Holiday entitlement: 20 days holidays plus bank holidays rising at the rate of 1 extra day for each year worked, up to a maximum of 25 days. Bonus 5 days holiday after 10 year work Anniversary.
  • Employer Pension Scheme: Employee contribution is 6% of salary. Employer contribution is 19%.
