AEG Presents and Young Thug have reportedly reached a settlement in their long-running legal dispute.
The promoter sued Young Thug – real name Jeffrey Williams – over the $16 million sale of his catalogue, alleging the rapper had violated their deal by selling hundreds of copyrights it says were meant to serve as collateral for an unpaid loan.
AEG is said to have loaned Williams’ record label Young Stoner Life (YSL) $5.25m in 2017, giving the company exclusive rights to his concerts. The firm subsequently alleged that Williams and YSL defaulted on the loan, as well as misrepresenting their ability to fulfil the repayment.
According to legal documents, AEG was seeking the return of the $5.25m loan, with interest, plus the proceeds the artist received from the 2021 sale of his publishing.
Young Thug, who last performed live in 2022, is due to appear at Switzerland’s Openair Frauenfeld in July
The company originally launched legal action against Williams in 2021, accusing the rapper of breach of contract. The dispute was set for trial in October 2022, only for it to be delayed after Williams was charged in a separate case.
AEG resumed its legal action last November after Williams agreed a plea deal in relation to his criminal trial. However, it has now emerged the parties have “entered into a settlement”, with a motion filed in federal court last month, dismissing the case without prejudice. Financial details have not been made public.
AEG declined to comment.
Young Thug, who last performed live in 2022, is due to return to the stage, with a slot confirmed at Switzerland’s Openair Frauenfeld (10-12 July).
