AEG’s Asia-Pacific venue management branch, AEG Ogden, has announced it will operate Te Pae Christchurch, a conference centre and live events space opening in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2020.

Te Pae (2,000-cap.) will host national and international events in the biggest city on New Zealand’s South Island. The venue will feature purpose-built features including a 1,400-seat auditorium, 3,600 square metres of exhibition space and 24 meeting rooms.

The centre, situated on the banks of Christchurch’s Avon River, will be New Zealand’s second largest conference and exhibition facility. Ōtākaro Limited, the project development company behind Te Pae, hopes AEG Ogden will help boost the centre’s international reputation.

“With a network of venues across the Asia-Pacific region, including the International Convention Centre Sydney, AEG Ogden has significant experience in delivering world-class events that have people wanting to come back for more,” comments Ōtākaro chief executive, John Bridgman.

“The positioning of Te Pae as an international standard meeting and events hub will assist in the regeneration of Christchurch and the Canterbury region”

AEG Ogden chairman and chief executive, Harvey Lister, says the objective is to attract “major conventions”, which “provide a significant economic boost and showcase the exceptional talent and skills of the Christchurch and New Zealand communities.”

“The positioning of Te Pae as an international standard meeting and events hub will assist in the regeneration of Christchurch and the Canterbury region. We are so excited to be involved with this project and our team can’t wait to get started,” adds Bridgman.

Building work for Te Pae Christchurch is underway, and the venue will begin to host events from late 2020.

AEG Ogden manages a range of venues throughout Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, including the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (14,500-cap.) and the Dubai Arena (17,000-cap.), opening in mid-2019.
