Presented by Sir David Attenborough, Blue Planet II received acclaim from scientists, television critics and the general public alike when it hit screens last year. Now fans of the show will be able to experience the nature documentary series like never before – live in concert.

The tour, organised by BBC Studios and European promoter FKP Scorpio, will see footage from the beloved television show paired with a full symphony orchestra. It will play 13 dates across the UK and Ireland, making stops at London’s O2, Glasgow’s SSE Hydro and Dublin’s 3Arena, among others. Scorpio has been involved with the Blue Planet since 2012 and has toured productions across Europe, but this marks their first such outing in the United Kingdom.

With its television counterpart known for arresting visuals, Blue Planet II Live in Concert hopes to create a similarly impactful experience for its audience. Viewers will watch as the world’s rivers and oceans are projected onto a state of the art, 200 square metre, 4K Ultra HD LED screen, set to music from Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and David Fleming.

“It is an incredible concept”

A famously difficult show to put together, the show features footage shot on 125 expeditions made over four years. All seven continents and every ocean on Earth also make an appearance. Organisers hope to deliver an extension of the “striking visual and environmental narrative” that the past two seasons have cultivated.

A live concert tour is a move in a new direction for the documentary series. Mat Way, global director of live entertainment at BBC Studios says: “We are delighted to partner with FKP Scorpio for Blue Planet II Live in Concert.

“It is an incredible concept bringing the BBC’s groundbreaking footage from a BAFTA award-winning series to the UK arena stage for fans to enjoy.”

Fans can get tickets via the Blue Planet II website, Seetickets.com and Eventim.co.uk when general sale opens on 8 June.
