Waves Vienna, the Austrian showcase festival and conference whose future looked uncertain last month after a major 2016 sponsor pulled out, has plugged its budget black hole by raising over €18,000 on crowdfunding site wemakeit.
Sixty-four backers have so far pledged €18,020 (of a goal of €18,000) to ensure the event will go ahead as planned. Writing on its Facebook page, Waves – promoted by Verein Wien macht Kultur and Comrades in association with Music Information Center Austria (MICA) – thanked, “from the bottom of [our] heart, all the supporters of our crowdfunding campaign. We did it!”
The event will take place across seven venues in Vienna from 29 September to 1 October. American band We are Scientists (pictured), the UK’s Gold Panda and German electro-pop act Stabil Elite are among the acts performing.
