SMG Europe has appointed former Perth Concert Hall general manager Andrew Bolt as CEO of The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Australian-born Bolt, who will start in his new role on 14 March, replaces outgoing CEO Nick Reed, who left in December to take up a new role with the Town Hall and Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

Before taking over 21 years ago at the 1,729-capacity Perth Concert Hall in Western Australia, Bolt was a manager at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and worked with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. He was also a senior member of Perth Theatre Trust.

“Our vision for the hall is to establish it as a leading international venue, and we’re delighted to have secured an international talent to help us deliver this ambition”

“I am excited and thrilled to have the privilege to lead this iconic international venue and its talented team into the future,” says Bolt (pictured), “and to continue to promote this wonderful performing arts facility within the cultural life of both the city and nation”.

John Sharkey, executive vice-president of venue manager SMG Europe, adds: “Our vision for the hall is to establish it as a leading international venue, and we’re delighted to have secured an international talent to help us deliver this ambition. Andrew’s proven track record in delivering artistic leadership and creative programming, alongside his substantial business acumen and commercial success, makes him the perfect candidate.”

The Bridgewater Hall, which opened in 1996, is home to The Hallé, the UK’s oldest symphony orchestra. It seats just under 2,400 people.
